Jim Bauer is a Boston-based composer, songwriter and performing musician. He's affiliated with SESAC (full name: James Watson Bauer). CURRENT PROJECT: DAGMAR An art-rock/alt-folk-opera band that performs Bauer's song cycle about a guy who can't get out of bed in the morning and an insect goddess who plunges through the ether to rescue him. Bauer writes the songs, sings, plays guitar and keyboards. The band gave its debut performance at Joe's Pub in NYC in June 2005. "Door No. 1", the first CD of the song cycle, was released in September 2006. "Door No. 2" was released in April 2009. Both are available on i-TUNES (visit the "buy" page on this website). "Door No. 3" will be released in June 2010. As a duo, Bauer and insect goddess, Xtreme vocalist and multi-instrumentalist MEGHAN McGEARY also perform in the NYC subways as members of the MTA's Music Under New York (MUNY) program. THEATER THE BLUE FLOWER, a multi-media play with music created by Jim Bauer (music, lyrics, orchestration, script & videography) and his wife, visual artist Ruth Bauer (artwork, story, videography). The piece has been developed in New York City over the last several years under the auspices of The Public Theater's "New Work Now" Festival (2001), The HERE Art Center Artists Residency Program (2002-03), The ASCAP Foundation Musical Theatre Workshop program, The Perry-Mansfield School for the Performing Arts "New Noises Festival for New Theater Works" in Steamboat Springs, CO (2003), and the New York Musical Theatre Festival (2004). An off-off Broadway production was presented by THE PROSPECT THEATER COMPANY in Feb/March 2008 at New York's West End Theater, Will Pomerantz directing.
